Mazandaran province, with 7 million livestock units, with a production of 480,000 tons of milk and 47,000 tons of red meat, has a share of 7.4 percent of total milk production and 7.5 percent red meat production of the country. This production rate of light and heavy livestock in industrial, semi-industrial and traditional livestock units of the province divided into which 25% of the products are extracted from industrial and 75% from traditional units.
At present, about 11 million chickens are hatched monthly in the province's meat poultry farms and 355,000 chikens are produced daily in the province. The value of annual livestock production in Mazandaran province is about 5500 billion rials, which indicates the role and importance of this sub-sector of the agricultural sector. The most important issue in this subsector is its effect in occupation, so that currently more than 130,000 people of Mazandaran are directly and indirectly employed in the poultry and livestock industry.
This province is the main part of investment, employment and the country's poultry industry production with a cost of 35,000 billion rials and employment of about 23,000 people, the province is in the first ranking among other provinces of the country, but unfortunately most of the existing capacities are active less than its 50% capacity. And the remained capacity is not included in the production cycle and the economy of this industry. Fortunately, Mazandaran province is the only province in the country whose poultry industry cycle in the field of chicken meat production is complete by activity of Babolkenar ancestral chicken center.
The achievements of this study, based on the studies conducted on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing the development of the livestock and poultry industry in the province, have shown an aggressive strategy. According to this strategy, forwarding strategies should be planned based on the opportunities ahead to strengthen this industry due to the existence of infrastructure and suitable natural conditions in the province, as well as proximity to the mass consumer market in the capital.
