In order to determine the yield stability and genotype × environment interactions, this project was conducted to study on quantitative traits of 120 barley lines/varieties (including four local controls Jolge, Bahman, Mahtab and promising line CB-97-8) in a preliminary yield trial (PBYT). This experiment was planted in three stations of cold regions including Karaj, Jolge Rokh and Miandoab in 2020-2021. Genotypes were planted in a single plot without any replication but controls were replicated in the intervals of each five plots. Based on grain yield average, superiority to the controls as well as using non-parametric stability parameters such as mean rank of the yield in different locations (R) and also good agronomic traits such as cold tolerance, early maturity, resistance to leaf diseases and lodging 17 genotypes with general adaptability were chosen to be retested in the Cold zone’s Advanced Barley Yield Trial in the following cropping season in all stations (ABYT-1). Genotypes with good performance in only one station supposed to have specific adaptability and were selected to be retested in the Cold zone’s Advanced Barley Yield Trial in the same location or stations with a similar climate (ABYT-2). Among genotypes tested, genotypes No. 28, 65, 8 and 41 with grain yields of 8.261, 8.167, 7.995 and 7.822 t/ha, respectively, had the highest grain yields in the experiment.
