Wheat stem rust caused by Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici, is the most damaging rust among wheat rusts and the damage caused by the disease can be reached the complete destruction of wheat fields. Currently, the disease which is endemic in different parts of Iran, is one of the most important diseases of wheat in the country. The present project was conducted to investigate the response of 1607 lines of wheat including 1234 lines of the Preliminary Wheat Screening Nursery (PWSN), Preliminary Regional Wheat Yield Trials (PRWYT), and Advanced Regional Wheat Yield Trials (ARWYT) from the four national wheat breeding programs of SPII, Karaj, Alborz, Iran in 2020, along with 22 lines of Value for Cultivation and Use (VCU) trial of the cold zone, 210 lines of the 15STEMRRSN-2020 received from CIMMYT, Mexico, 65 French lines, and 76 Chinese lines to stem rust under natural field conditions in Kelardasht, Iran in 2020-21 cropping season. Based on the results obtained from this study, a significant percentage of the genotypes tested had a low level of disease (a disease severity of 30 or less and with any infection type except S type). Data collected were provided to Cereal Research Department (CRD), SPII, to screen wheat genotypes in national wheat breeding programs.
