Wheat stem rust caused by Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici, is the most damaging rust among wheat rusts and the damage caused by the disease can be reached the complete destruction of wheat fields. Currently, the disease which is endemic in different parts of Iran, is one of the most important diseases of wheat in the country. The present project was conducted to investigate the response of 1363 lines of wheat including 1154 lines of the Preliminary Wheat Screening Nursery (PWSN), Preliminary Regional Wheat Yield Trials (PRWYT), and Advanced Regional Wheat Yield Trials (ARWYT) from the four national wheat breeding programs of SPII, Karaj, Alborz, Iran in 2019, along with 164 lines of the 14STEMRRSN-2019 received from CIMMYT, Mexico and 45 French lines to stem rust under natural field conditions in Kelardasht and Boroujerd, Iran in 2019-20 cropping season. Based on the results obtained from this study, a significant percentage of the genotypes tested had a low level of disease. Data collected were provided to Cereal Research Department (CRD), SPII, to screen wheat genotypes in national wheat breeding programs.
