Management of breeding progress is done by attention to agronomical and morphological traits using different methods. A breeding program includes different steps and one of the primary steps is Preliminary yield trial. In order to select superior lines for participating in salinity advanced yield trial in the next year, 145 barley lines (along with 4 checks including Mehr and Golshan cultivars and MBS-94-3 and MBS-94-4 promising lines) were evaluated during 2019-2020 cropping season in Yazd and Birjand agricultural research stations. Some traits including: Days to anthesis, resistance to foliar diseases (powdery mildew and barley leaf strip), percentage of lodging, plant height, days to maturity, 1000 kernels weight and grain yield were recorded. In overall, based on grain yield average, superiority to the checks and rest of recorded traits, 54 lines were selected and will be investigated in Advanced salinity yield trials in next year. Lines 135, 24, 25, 17 and 18 were the top yielding with 6.792, 6.621, 6.575, 6.488 and 6.288 t/ha, respectively. Key words: Barley, Salt stress, Preliminary yield trial.
