This study was conducted to investigate the agronomic characteristics of segregating populations obtained from crossing blocks of chickpea breeding program for moderate regions of Iran and populations received from ICARDA. In this regard, 11, 9, 14, 12, 6, 12 and 22 populations respectively from F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7 and CF4N21 (received from ICARDA) generation were evaluated in the research farm of Dryland Agricultural Research Institute (Sararood branch) during 2020-2021 cropping season. Different populations were assessed for important agronomic characteristics such as early maturity, plant height, seed size and disease response (blight) in comparison with checks (Mansour and Adel varieties). Based on the results, 130, 114, 143, 113, 52, 77 (lines) and 143 plants were selected from F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7 and CF4N21 populations, respectively. Seeds harvested from F2, F3, F4, CF4N21 and F5 plants were bulked for each cross and seeds of selected plants from F6 were harvested separately. The selected lines from F7 generation will be evaluated in the preliminary yield trials during next cropping season.
