Preliminary evaluation of breeding lines under stress conditions and also identifying their seasonal habit is one of the most important stages of barley breeding program. This would help for a better decision to assign each pure line to specific breeding program in the different climate zones. In order to conduct a preliminary evaluation of barley lines from different sources including Iranian pure breeding lines and international germplasm under abiotic stresses, genotypes were tested in an observational experiment in Karaj, Zanjan, Yazd, Borazjan and Faizabad during 2019–2020 cropping season. In total, 678 barley lines were tested for seasonal habit, drought tolerance and salt tolerance in Karaj, Yazd and Faizabad stations, respectively, while for cold tolerance in Zanjan 615 genotypes and for heat tolerance in Borazjan only 477 genotypes were evaluated, respectively. In all experiments lines were sown in a one-meter row with 60 cm intervals and scorings were made observationally. In total, results of this study were used to screen barley lines with good yield performance (based on yield trials) as well as possessing drought, cold, salt and heat tolerance and desired seasonal habit in order to select specific materials for different climate zones.
