In order to determine the yield stability and genotype × environment interactions, 17 promising barley lines/varieties and three local controls (Jolge, Mahtab and CB-95-8) were evaluated in years 2018-2020. Experiment was conducted using randomized complete block design with three replications in eight stations in the cold regions of Iran including Karaj, Ardabil, Miandoab, Hamadan, Mashhad, Tabriz, Arak and Jolge Rokh. Drought tolerance of these genotypes including three local controls Jolge, Azaran and CB-95-7 were also evaluated under terminal drought conditions in Karaj, Miandoab and Hamadan. In total. two separate combined analysis of variance were performed, one for grain yields of genotypes under normal condition and other for grain yields of genotypes under terminal drought stress. First combined analysis of variance (normal condition) showed significant differences of the grain yield among genotypes and year × location and genotype × location interaction effects. Mean comparisons of yield among genotypes using Duncan multiple range test showed that genotypes No. 1 (Jolge), 8, 19 (Mahtab) and 4 with grain yields of 7.336, 7.104, 7.099 and 6.814 t/ha, respectively, had the highest yields among genotypes tested. Second combined analysis of variance (drought stress) showed significant differences of the grain yield among year × location, genotypes × year and genotype × location interaction effects. Mean comparisons of yield among genotypes using Duncan multiple range test showed that genotypes No. 4, 8, 1 (Jolge) and 2 with grain yields of 5.930, 5.818, 5.769 and 5.569 t/ha, respectively, had the highest yields among genotypes tested. Since the genotype effect and genotype × location × year interaction effect were significant under normal condition, different stability parameters including AMMI method were employed to examine the effects of genotype × environment interaction and to determine adaptation of the genotype in details. In total, based on yield mean, stability parameters and agronomic traits genotypes No. 2 (CB-97-2), 4 (CB-97-4) and 8 (CB-97-8) were recommended for on-farm trials under either normal or terminal drought stress conditions in the cold regions of Iran.
