Rhizomania is the most destructive disease of sugar beet in the world and recently has spread in most sugar beet production areas of Iran such as Fars, Khorasan and West Azerbaijan provinces. As this disease is soilborne, the use of the resistant varieties is the best method to control the disease. In this research, 27 foreign sugar beet varieties along with two resistant and one susceptible checks were evaluated in two 16-variety experiments in four naturally infected areas (Mashad, Shiraz, Hamedan and Miandoab) for two years (2017 and 2018) in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Results showed that the varieties significantly differed for root yield (RY), white sugar yield (WSY) and sugar content (SC) in the first experiment and for RY and SC in the second experiment. Means comarision revealed that the WSY of the varieties 6K625, 6K633, 6K638 and 7K734 in the first experiment and the varieties FD16B3013, HONEY, LUBOMIRA, SY MARVIN, ZELTIC and B6069 in the second experiment were significantly superior to the mean of the resistant checks. Considering all the experiments conducted over two years and four locations and WSY, yield stability and disease infection, the varieties 6K625, 6K633, FD16B3013, LUBOMIRA, SY MARVIN and B6069 were identified as the most suitable varieties which could be recommended for sowing in the infected areas. Keywords: Varieties, sugar beet, resistance, Rhizomania, BNYVV
